The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), under the Ministry of Power grants BEE Star Label/ BEE Certification/ BEE Rating Certificate. Regulated products must be approved by BEE and have star label marked affixed to be manufactured/sold in the Indian market and thus, it is the responsibility of the manufacturer/ importer/ trader to meet the energy performance standards laid out by the department.
A star rating, ranging from 1 to 5 based on energy efficiency is provided to the products registered with the Bureau for a particular label period which is the duration prescribed by BEE for which the star rating of a product is valid. The label period is revised frequently by the department wherein the star rating calculation table and energy performance criteria for the product may also be updated.
1. Mandatory Scheme: Notified products cannot be manufactured/sold in the Indian market without BEE Star Label.
2. Voluntary Scheme: Lists Products for which the certification is optional.
The applicant company is required to register themselves with BEE followed by subsequent registration of the models of the product. Performance Testing as per BEE’s prescribed standard can be carried out parallelly along with the Company Registration process. The test report determines the star rating of the product tested. Registered companies are required to submit sales statistics for each financial year and pay the labelling fees to BEE.
